POKOTABI / Delicious detours
桃六
Momoroku, a confectionery shop in Kyobashi, is known for dorayaki generously filled with chunky red bean paste, fragrant soy-sauce dango and soft dango with smooth red bean paste. A steamed rice lunch box is another option at midday.
2 Chome-9-1 Kyobashi, Chuo City, Tokyo 104-003101 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Momoroku’s dorayaki is a good choice when you want to savour both the fluffy pancake and its chunky red bean filling. Diners say the beans retain their texture and the sweetness is well judged, so even a generous amount of filling does not feel too heavy. Chestnut and plum versions are also available, making it easy to choose a gift with a noticeable chestnut flavour or a hint of plum.
Among the dango, the soy-sauce version is praised for its fragrance, while another pairs soft rice cakes with smooth red bean paste. Some diners have been struck by the lightly sweetened paste and the cakes’ softness and clean bite. Add bean-filled daifuku to the mix, and there is plenty to choose from if you are in the mood for rice-cake sweets.
There is also a steamed rice lunch box to consider at midday. People who reserved and bought boxes with tea-flavoured rice or red rice say they enjoyed the contents, which included steamed rice and simmered dishes. It is an option to look out for if you would like to pick up lunch alongside Japanese sweets.
Momoroku is in Kyobashi and is open on weekdays from 9:30 to 17:00; it is closed on Saturdays and Sundays. Some customers have reported that items had sold out by late afternoon, so consider going earlier if you have something specific in mind.
